ASB / Main Report Regional Economic Scoreboard

June 2014 Quarter

Canterbury once again holds onto the top spot in the ASB/Main Report Regional Economic Scoreboard.

Narrowly holding onto the top ranking from Auckland, both regions are similarly buoyed by strong employment and population growth with a healthy outlook for construction.

Activity was not as robust in the regions outside the main centres, with the decline in dairy prices and more recently forestry weighing on the outlook for parts of rural New Zealand.

The ASB / Main Report Regional Economic Scoreboard takes the latest quarterly regional statistics and ranks the economic performance of New Zealand’s 16 regional economic areas.
