Global confidence on the up and up

Thirty-one percent of respondents said they are either “confident” or “very confident” about the prospects for the global economy, compared to 23 percent in the first quarter of this year.

“It looks as though the worst is over,” says Martina Gmür, senior director of the Forum’s Global Agenda Council.

The score puts the index back in neutral territory for the first time since it fell into low confidence in the third quarter of last year.

The poll draws on responses from 304 global experts in business, academia, NGOs, international organisations and governments.

Asked to rate the likelihood of certain types of disruptions occurring over the next 12 months, just under 52 percent rated geopolitical disruption as ‘likely or very likely”. Almost 48 percent gave the same rating to economic disruption, 42.4 percent to societal and 31.3 percent to environmental disruption.
