Just good business: Zero carbon taxis

Wellington’s largest taxi firm, Wellington Combined Taxis, is claiming the honour of being first cab off the rank when it comes to carbon neutrality.
Last month, it received certification from Landcare Research’s carboNZero programme following robust, science-based audit of its carbon emissions. The company opted to go down the certification track because it sees credibility as paramount in the industry and wanted rating that stood up to scrutiny.
CarboNZero, which is the only accredited ISO14065 GHG (greenhouse gas) certifier outside the United States and the first GHG scheme to be internationally accredited by JAS-ANZ, helped Wellington Combined Taxis accurately measure and manage its GHG emissions. The remaining and unavoidable emissions are then offset through the purchase of credible and verified carbon credits from the Tararua 11 windpower project.
