Reading this while grabbing quick sammie break? You’re not alone. Lunch is apparently off the workday menu for an increasing number of New Zealand employees. Instead of the allocated lunch break, they take quickly snaffled munch break at the desk – or skip lunch altogether.

This dedication to duty is reflected worldwide, according to recent online poll conducted by recruitment specialists Robert Walters. Only 17 percent of the 8000 respondents take the fully allocated time out of the office; 43 percent take some but not all the allocated time; 29 percent take 10 minutes to grab sandwich; and seven percent skip lunch altogether.

“A telling comment on the pressures of today’s workplace,” comments Robert Walters’ local managing director Richard Manthel.
