An Auckland Chamber of Commerce confidence survey – the first for 2013 covering responses from over 1100 firms in the region – shows dramatic lift in confidence reports Chamber CEO Michael Barnett.
“There has been shift from firms that have simply expected ‘more of the same’ to those that believe the economy will improve over the next six months.”
Those that think it will improve have jumped 18 percent since the November survey; those who expect the same have dropped 10 percent as have those who expect things to deteriorate.
Barnett says there is growing concern though from those in growth or productivity-building mode that over 25 percent of firms are having difficulty finding the right people with the right skills to help build their business.
The survey also found:
• Employment intentions are up from 14 percent in November 2012 to 20 percent.
• Hours expected to be worked are up.
• Profitability expectations are up.
• Demand is up.
