The Geneva-based International Organization for Standardization (ISO) has announced the appointment of New Zealander Rob Steele as its next secretary-general.
Steele was the chief executive of Standards New Zealand for eight years from June 1999 to May 2007. He will take up his new role on January 1.
“This is major recognition of Rob Steele’s skills and dedication to international standardisation. Rob’s success in worldwide search is an acknowledgement of his capabilities and standing in the international Standards community. It is yet another significant achievement for our country to have New Zealander in such an important position,” said Richard Westlake, chair of the board of Standards New Zealand.
ISO is network of the national standards bodies of 157 countries, one member per country. It is the world’s largest developer and publisher of international standards.
