INTOUCH : NZIM Foundation scholarships awarded

Four recipients have been announced for the 2008 NZIM Foundation Management Study Scholarships. Chosen from 74 applications nationwide, they will travel to San Diego, California, for week in June to attend the American Society for Training and Development (ASTD) conference and exposition, which is the largest and most prestigious of its kind in the world.
The winners are Sharyn Carter, learning and development manager at Auckland-based James Gilmour and Co; Flora Gilkison, principal of The International Hotel Management School in New Plymouth; Benjamin Day, marketing services manager from Christchurch City Council and Stephen Metzger, business development manager, from the Dunedin-based CRT Co-operative.
The group will hear presentations from some of the world’s leading learning and personal performance management gurus such as San Diego State University’s professor James Belasco. The conference features more than 200 sessions from keynote speakers on industry learning and development. They will also take part in day of boardroom briefings from selected iconic New Zealanders who have established successful businesses in San Diego.
The standard and number of applicants that made themselves available for this year’s NZIM Foundation study scholarships was extremely high and made selection very difficult, said Foundation chairman Doug Matheson.
The scholarships deliver on the Foundation’s vision to develop tomorrow’s leaders, by assisting them to gain experience beyond their current work environment, and to stimulate them to think innovatively about their personal management development.
