Meanwhile the push for renewable energy is going into hyperdrive across Europe with the UK launching £100 billion wind energy programme (3500 turbines in the next 12 years) and North Sea countries planning massive £27 billion super-grid to join up the growing array of renewable energy sources. Combining the energy output from wind, waves, solar and hydro across Northern Europe to offer more reliable, less weather-dependent supply is the aim of the cooperative project that nine countries were expected to sign up to last month.
