M-Tech: Test-driven: HP´s Deskjet 450CBi Mobile Printer

For people who want all the features of high-performance desktop printing, without the constraints of the desktop, the HP Deskjet 450 Series mobile printer is the perfect solution.

I thought my trusty old Deskjet 400 had tiny footprint, but the smart 450 Series’ is much smaller. It’s also much, much faster. In black it will output up to nine pages per minute (versus its predecessor’s five pages), while colour comes out at up to eight pages per minute. That’s major improvement.

Resolution is up too – now 1200 x 1200 dpi or 4800 x 1200 optimised dpi on premium photo paper – excellent for those digital snaps. The dual carriage design supports black and colour cartridge, or for six-ink printing, photo and colour cartridge – and the output is very impressive.

The 450CBi model I tested came with lithium-ion battery, which boosts the weight from 1.9 kilograms up to 2.08 kilograms, and is capable of printing up to 350 pages per charge. The printer also has CompactFlash slot for printing images directly off digital camera and enabling wireless connection. The Deskjet 450 Series is proof indeed that print performance need not be sacrificed for the sake of mobility.
