“Report 9. Science Embraced: Government-funded science under the microscope” provides an indepth review of the current New Zealand science system and calls for national conversation around how it can be improved.
In the foreword, high-profile scientist Sir Paul Callaghan says that science could be major game-changer for New Zealand if we were to embrace its potential. He says we must question how long we can rely on our traditional strengths in agriculture and tourism.
He calls for national strategy and the resolve to move consciously towards common vision that will harness New Zealand’s scientific potential.
The report forms part of the institute’s Project 2058 which aims to promote integrated long-term thinking and dialogue among government ministers, policy analysts and members of the public about alternative strategies for the future of New Zealand.
