Increasing numbers of employees now use their own mobile computing devices in their jobs and to access corporate information.
The fast take-up of high-end smartphones and tablets including iPhones, iPads and Android devices, along with the number of easily accessible apps, is driving BYOD practices. Cloud-based services, accessible from almost anywhere, are also key factor.
Juniper Research calculates almost 150 million employee-owned smartphones and tablets are currently used in enterprises. It predicts this will more than double by 2014 and reach 350 million by 2017.
Its ‘Mobile Security ~ Safe and Secure Devices’ whitepaper outlines the mobile security threat and the growing market for security solutions.
Report author Nitin Bhas says that while BYOD has become an inevitable trend, businesses need to create new end-user IT policies and address the emerging security issues.
“New device management policies and security measures need to be put in place.”
