IN TOUCH: NZIM scholarships

The NZ Institute of Management has announced the winners of its 2009 Foundation Scholarships. Their prizes include travel to Sydney for one week this month to attend the Australia Human Resources International Convention.
Robert Levy is national marketing manager of New Zealand Couriers, based in Auckland and part of the Freightways Group. Levy controls the marketing and systems function and runs the company’s international business unit.
Dan Coward is area manager of the NZ Fire Service in Christchurch – crown entity emergency service providing education and risk management within the community.
Annette Kendall is practice manager with MCI & Associates, chartered accountancy firm in Dannevirke that provides tax preparation, financial and business planning as well as general accounting services. Kendall instigated system of sub committees responsible for establishing and monitoring best practices including communication sponsorship and protocol standards.
This is the fourth year the NZIM Foundation has awarded overseas travel scholarships. Last year, four managers went to San Diego for the American Society of Training and Development Conference and in 2007, four travelled to Sydney for an Australia Institute of Management International Convention.
This year’s winners will spend day with international leadership guru Wilf Jarvis and another visiting leading companies in Sydney for boardroom briefings with ex-pat New Zealanders such as Commonwealth Bank head Ralph Norris.
The NZIM Foundation was established to develop local management and leadership through scholarships and study programmes that provide rewarding and practical learning experience of value both to the individual and New Zealand.
