Worldwide companies are ramping up their digital initiatives, according to a new survey from global consultancy McKinsey.  And executives are leading the charge. “Digitisation has become a critical asset in many companies’ quest for growth,” according to the report’s authors who note the increased involvement of chief executive and other top executives. 

But boards and their member directors don’t seem similarly inclined to take the digital switch seriously. Directors are reportedly lagging when it comes to digital initiatives and the vast majority of McKinsey’s survey respondents said their directors weren’t directly involved in their digital projects or even supportive sponsors.  Board support for digital projects has barely budged in the last three years, unlike their managerial underlings whose interest and support of moves digital has “grown meaningfully”.
