ExportNZ has welcomed the announcement that trade negotiations will begin between New Zealand and the EU.

ExportNZ executive director Catherine Beard said in a statement that having competitive access into such a big trade bloc would be a huge boost for New Zealand exporters.

“We still face significant tariffs on many of our agricultural exports in European markets, which reduce our competitiveness in those markets.

“New Zealand and Europe are counter-seasonal, so as producers of fresh food we should complement their local producers.

“We congratulate the Government and the trade negotiators for getting to this point and look forward to a successful outcome for boosting two-way trade,” she said.
