Basil M. Logan: Life FNZIM

Basil Logan, CNZM and former National President of the New Zealand Institute of Management, died at Te Omanha Hospice in Lower Hutt on May 16, aged 78.

An outstanding New Zealander, Basil was made a Companion of the Order of Merit in 2006 for his services to business and government. He was born in Christchurch, a graduate in Commerce of Canterbury University and, following an early career in public and commercial accounting, spent 30 years with IBM, becoming the company’s chief executive and chairman in this country.

Basil became a Life Fellow of NZIM, a Fellow of the NZ Institute of Chartered Accountants, a Life Member and past President of the American Chamber of Commerce in New Zealand and a Distinguished Fellow of the Institute of Directors. He served on the boards of many companies including Bancorp, ANZ Bank, Prudential Corporation of Australia, and Cedenco Foods. His government activities included chair of the Government Superannuation Fund, chair of the Independent Review Group of the Wellington City Council and convenor of the Review of State Sector Reforms.

Basil is survived by his wife Judy, their three sons and their families.
