The number of service jobs outsourced from industrialised to lower-wage economies is expected to hit 4.1 million by 2008, according to new report from the McKinsey Global Institute.
In 2003, it’s estimated around 1.5 million jobs were outsourced but the proportion is growing as jobs in areas such as computers and engineering are shifted to countries such as India, China and the Philippines. This trend won’t have major impact on workforces in outsourcing countries as only relatively modest proportion of the workforce is affected, the report predicts.
