Transparency International New Zealand Inc (TINZ) is hosting a public seminar addressing the topic of how New Zealand can prevent corruption and why it matters to maintain our reputation for integrity on February 25 in Auckland.
Speakers are Phil Goff, Auckland Mayoral candidate and Labour MP; Nick Paterson, general manager investigations, Serious Fraud Office and Suzanne Snively, chair of Transparency International New Zealand Inc. The moderator is Mark Sainsbury, director, Transparency International New Zealand and broadcaster.
An email notification of the seminar says that in the recently released Transparency International Corruptions Perceptions Index (CPI), New Zealand dropped to fourth place – its second consecutive drop in a survey it has previously topped seven times.
“Following changes to our domestic anti-corruption legislation, New Zealand immediately ratified the United Nations Convention Against Corruption (UNCAC). But has enough been done to protect New Zealand’s corrupt-free reputation? Or is there more that we should be doing? What are the downsides if New Zealand’s reputation and integrity systems are weakened through apathy,” are the issues up for discussion.
The seminar is co-hosted by Auckland University’s New Zealand Governance Centre RSVPs are essential. RSVP to [email protected]
