JUST GOOD BUSINESS GUIDES AND RULES: Supply Chain Threats

It is critical that senior management understand the climate change risks within their supply chain and how suppliers are managing those risks, according to just-released findings from the “2008 Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP) Supply Chain Report”.
In what was the first ever global collaboration on climate change between major organisations and their suppliers, the US-based CDP surveyed 634 global suppliers to find that only 58 percent thought climate change imposed risk to their operations; one third said it posed no risk. The report written by PricewaterhouseCoopers notes that between 40 to 60 percent of an organisation’s total greenhouse gas emissions are recognised as being outside its direct control and are found within the supply chain through activities such as processing, packaging and transportation. According to report from Science Daily, the CDP process is the first to bring together the huge purchasing power of global corporations to provide standard reporting model for suppliers to advance carbon disclosure in the supply chain.
