One in four New Zealanders who have been unemployed in the past six months has already found employment, according to recent SEEK survey.
SEEK Employment New Zealand general manager Annemarie Duff said the figures give some encouragement that work can still be found, even though today’s unemployment rate has increased further to five percent.
“In slowing economy the key may be in jobseekers realigning their expectations and being flexible in their approach to work,” Duff says.
Nearly 60 percent of respondents said they’d consider less money, while 55 percent are considering more training, and 45 percent say they’d consider moving house for their next job.
Those still employed said that sudden redundancies drastically cut morale and increased stress within the workplace and that makes good communication vital, says Duff. “Employers should be including staff in discussions regarding the financial stability of the business and utilise their team to make it more focused and efficient.”
