New Zealand employer hiring expectations have slid seven percentage points after last year’s six-year high – in line with Treasury expectations of muted growth in 2006, according to the latest half-yearly Hudson Report.
However, 46 percent of the 1705 respondents believed employment numbers would remain steady over the next six months. Industries registering the most positive sentiment included information technology, financial services, construction/engineering, government and professional services. Least positive are manufacturing, tourism and transport.
Employees in the lower North Island recorded the highest level of sentiment for the third consecutive period. The South Island is the least positive region.
