The 2009 Environmental Packaging Awards have been revamped to showcase how organisations have moved beyond focus on recyclability to take into account resource consumption and greenhouse gas emissions.
Packaging Council chief executive Paul Curtis says this year’s “Closing the Loop” awards programme coincides with the final year of the NZ Packaging Accord. “And we particularly want to showcase how industry is adapting to resource-constrained world by taking complete supply chain approach to new product development.”
Packaging, he says, has become “an integral component in minimising company’s overall environmental impact, enabling them to maximise transport efficiencies, minimise space and storage requirements and utilise new technologies which make packaging lighter, stronger and more resource efficient to produce”.
Organisations can enter at www.packaging.org.nz and the awards will be celebrated on 4 September.
