George Gould
PGG Wrightson has appointed descendant of the founder of the original company to its board. Gould is the chairman and major shareholder of Christchurch investment company Gould Holdings and will be the second representative for Pyne Gould Corp on the PGG Wrightson board. He fills vacancy created when Sam Maling resigned in October. Two other appointments to the board, Alan Lai and Xie Tao, come from Agria, PGG’s major shareholder.
Sandy Maier
Maier has been appointed chief executive of the under pressure South Canterbury Finance. He replaces Nigel Gormack, who has been interim chief executive since December 1. Maier was brought in as statutory manager of the failed Development Finance Corporation in 1990 and since then has been director or chairman of many New Zealand companies and organisations.
Nicola Bell
A New Zealand-born international advertising executive has been appointed CEO of Saatchi & Saatchi New Zealand. Bell joins the agency later this month after 10 years with Ogilvy New York where she was worldwide managing director on the Kodak, Motorola and Avon accounts. She succeeds outgoing CEO Andrew Stone.
Matthew Farrington
Joining Buddle Findlay’s Wellington office as senior solicitor in the business services team, Farrington specialises in financial sector regulation and securities, swaps and derivatives transactions. He has recently returned to Wellington following stints in London, Guernsey and Switzerland where he worked in-house for large hedge fund manager.
Ian Calvert
Global airline pilot training company CTC Aviation Group has appointed Calvert as the CEO of its New Zealand operation based in Hamilton. Calvert started as the company’s chief instructor in 2003, progressing to chief operating officer in 2005, and was most recently the company’s acting CEO following the retirement of John Jones last May.
John Buchanan
Accounting and finance recruitment specialist Robert Half New Zealand has appointed Buchanan as consultant in its permanent recruitment team. chartered accountant, he has senior finance and accounting recruitment experience, having worked with several agencies in the past 11 years.
Nick Garrett
Clemenger Group has appointed Garrett as managing director of Colenso BBDO, effective March 1. He joins the agency from BMF Sydney where he has been senior member of management. He replaces outgoing managing director Brent Smart.
Karen Clarke
PMINZ (Project Management Institute NZ Chapter) has re-elected Clarke as national president for second term commencing January. She has previously held leadership roles both locally and globally within PMI and PMINZ. She is also director and GM NZ operations at Project Plus in Wellington.
Mike Watkins
Designworks has appointed Watkins as group general manager. Currently general manager at Film Construction, he takes up his new role mid February. Watkins’ industry experience includes time as managing partner of Meares/Taine/MTC, general manager of M&C Saatchi, and managing partner at DDB.
