An economic impact assessment of Ports of Auckland concluded:
? The current total direct and indirect impact of the port on the Auckland regional economy is worth $10.6 billion year, almost third of the regional economic activity, and affects 173,000 jobs.
? By 2015, economic activity in the region facilitated by the port will increase to $16 billion annually, or over 36 percent of Auckland’s GDP.
? The current total effect on the national economy is worth $13.2 billion, which represents 13 percent of national economic activity and nearly 210,000 jobs.
